Making Opportunities vs waiting for Opportunities

You don’t wait for an opportunity, you create an opportunity.

If there’s one vital lesson I’ve learned, it’s this.

Every year I would tell myself that this year would be the year I would change my life and find what I wanted to do.

At the beginning of 2011, I said my statement to my co workers – this will be my year, I’m going to get my opportunity.

2011 would roll by and then 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 but nothing changed. Except the fact that I had almost given up on myself and accepted my faith. That there was nothing more out there for me and I was destined to work in a career I disliked and live a life less than I was capable of living.

In 2015, at rock bottom, I gave myself one more chance and instead of waiting for an opportunity, I decided I would try to create some.

I started working hard on myself, pursuing my interests, reading about business, getting fitter, taking flying lessons and pushing myself to do more and more.

Things changed quickly, opportunities came in thick and fast as a result of searching for what I was looking for.

When I figured out that helping people get un stuck and lead them to live a fulfilled and passionate life was my life path it would have been easy to realise that I hadn’t got the resources or skills to make this happen.

But I don’t think like most people and again I thought about creating opportunities.

I started a fitness business so I could speak to people and build my confidence, then moved onto growing that business to a large level until I became the most recognised Irish fitness person in Sydney.

At that point, I had an big audience, a starting point to start speaking and helping people.
I advertised free talks and set a goal of doing 10 talks which I achieved in 8 weeks.

I spoke to 400 people in 8 weeks and provided huge value which led me to being paid to speak at various events.

I then started to get more aligned with my path and now help people full time for a living.

You see anything is possible but if you are waiting on an opportunity for your dream to be realised, you are wasting your time.

You’ve got to create one and knock down the the dominos until you get to where you want to be.
